Help lead the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's efforts to promote fishing, hunting and conservation efforts around the state! This position serves as a public information officer for statewide issues and will also be the primary support for the East Region of the state.

 

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking to hire a limited duration, Public Affairs Specialist 2 (East Region Public Information Officer), in Salem, Oregon. This limited duration position is expected to last through June 30, 2019, however, we are seeking permanent funding in the 2019-2021 budget.

 

This position serves as a communications officer for statewide issues and initiatives and provides a full range of communication, public information, media relations and outreach support for the department's statewide programs and initiatives. Along with working on statewide issues, this position will provide full communication support to the East Region. This position will interview staff and research issues to develop, edit and distribute news releases, brochures, fact sheets and articles on emerging issues, recreational opportunities, and fish and wildlife management activities. Respond to media questions and develop positive working relationships with reporters to promote ODFW activities, programs and initiatives. Promote and place stories in local, regional and national information outlets. Develop postings for the Web and use social media on emerging issues, recreational opportunities, and fish and wildlife management activities.

 

To qualify you need A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, the Behavioral or Social Sciences or related degree and two years of professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs OR Five years of experience developing and managing a variety of public information campaigns; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.
