Neptune Mountaineering currently has an excellent opportunity available for an Assistant Manager. The Assistant Manager is critical to shaping the customer experience and the overall success of the store. This role supports management, as well as the sales associates in the day-to-day operations of the store. The Assistant Manager possesses sound leadership skills that fit the outdoor retail environment and is able to see areas of opportunity and delegate tasks to make Neptune a great place to shop and work. This role will oversee assigned departments in which they will assist Merchandiser in product merchandising, assist category Buyer with inventory management, and create a plan to maximize department sales. This position will work closely with buyers on giving feedback as it relates to product sell thru and turns in their departments. Lastly, this person has outstanding customer service, sales skills coupled with a depth of knowledge of the products we offer, and strong communication skills to effectively with staff and management.  

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and delegate all store opening and closing procedures when scheduled
  • Manage sales staff throughout the shift, ensuring that customers’ needs are met, meals and breaks are taken appropriately and the store is performing to expectations
  • Communicate effectively with the sales staff about sales goals, store promotions or initiatives, and other general information that supports the overall company objectives
  • Ensure that the sales floor is clean, well merchandised by doing or delegating duties such as re-stocking, fluffing/tucking the apparel, dusting, vacuuming and other general cleaning duties throughout the work day
  • Participate in hiring, training, coaching, and developing Sales Associates.
  • Engages in positive interactions with all levels and types of customers, tailoring the sales approach to find the right product and the right solutions for that customer
  • Work with buyers on inventory management - manage backstock, identify slow moving product and help develop action plans to achieve sell through
  • Provides customers with accurate and appropriate product and service information, including ski shop and rental needs, both in store and over the phone
  • Works periods at the cash register to complete sales transactions and handle returns and general questions
  • Researches transaction issues or undocumented discounts when necessary
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves customer needs and issues.
  • Identify merchandise issues and opportunities based on selling and customer feedback to buyers and visual merchandiser as needed.
  • Assist with the seasonal transition plan of the store.
  • Identify areas of weakness in the department and work with Buyer to find solutions to issues to improve customer experience
  • Clinics and Company Meeting involvement - support the team during meetings and clinics.
  • Supports shipping and receiving with product distribution to the floor and helps with merchandizing it appropriately
  • Supports management with any other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Retail sales experience in a lead role, preferably in an outdoor or sporting goods store.
  • Ability to sell product with strong customer service skills
  • Ability to be consistently reliable and punctual
  • Has demonstrated leadership qualities and proven communication skills both verbal and written.
  • High attention to detail and ability to train employees
  • Has a strong interest in outdoor activity, and is passionate about the gear needed for those activities at a high level.
  • Motivated to seek out customer’s needs and sell them the right products for their adventure, but also encourage and teach others how to sell better. 
  • Enjoys learning about gear and the latest technologies in the realm of both equipment and apparel.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
