But we focus on winning in a way that instills a lifelong love of sport. Learn more about us at https://www.outdoorsportacademy.com/about-us.

Five Aspirations

  1. We aspire for every student to have a team – a place to belong, learn and grow.

  2. We aspire to create lifelong outdoor athletes and adventurers.

  3. We aspire to increase youth participation and access to outdoor sports.

  4. We aspire to develop confident and empathetic leaders.

  5. We aspire to have fun and win!

Who you are:

We’re looking for a strong head coach to lead our first-ever skimo team. While this person doesn’t need to have experience coaching skimo athletes, we’re looking for someone with a strong ability to lead, learn, and adapt.

Responsibilities

  • Design - Partner with the Biz Dev team to design the curriculum and training plans for the season.

  • Adapt - Assess the skill levels of each athlete at the beginning of the season. Adapt the curriculum and training plan accordingly to create a safe, yet challenging space for all athletes.

  • Follow safety protocols -

    • Assess road and mountain conditions before each practice, alerting athletes if practice will be changed to a trail workout at a lower-elevation or moved to a virtual at-home workout.

    • Follow SafeSport protocol (training will be part of the onboarding process).

    • Follow COVID protocol, including enforcing the mask policy, taking athletes temperatures at the start of practice, etc.

  • Be a leader - Work with assistant coaches to effectively manage the group while on the mountain, always keeping safety as a top priority. Create a fun, energetic environment for the athletes to grow and build a passion for the sport.

  • Develop leaders - Work with each athlete to set their own goals and build a plan to achieve them.

  • Increase participation - Help spread the word about OSA to enroll new athletes.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills when working with peers, parents, and athletes.

  • Ability to uphold a high-standard of timeliness and safety.

  • Ability to travel uphill on skins and ski downhill at an expert level.

  • Ability to work weekdays 1/4/2021 until 4/18/2021.

  • Willingness to work with middle school and high school aged children.

  • Willingness to work with a range of experience and skill levels.

  • Willingness to join the skimo community to learn the latest training and racing techniques.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt as a coach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children.

  • Previous experience as a ski instructor or coach.

  • Knowledge of or experience with skimo racing.

  • AIARE Certified.

  • Interest in coaching trail running, rock climbing, or cycling outside of skimo season.
