Title: Director of Product Design & Development Reports To: CEO/Owner

Purpose of the Role:
The Director of Product Design & Development is responsible for the execution of the development roadmap of the product offering based on time-to-market aspects and on the fulfillment of design and technical specifications. The holder of this position will oversee the whole development process and the goal is to have new products ready to market in line with agreed time and cost plans. Reports directly to President/CEO.
Essential Functions of the Role:
1. Solid Business and Management
= Oversee the whole development process of new structures
= Be technical expert on the design and documentation of our shelters and structures as well as production guidelines.
= Design and work with production to find appropriate methods to produce the shelter including cut sheets, stitching location and patterns, material specs, wood, metals, etc.
= Facilitate our engineering stamp (design and then find out local codes, and then confirm the engineered design with their specific site/location.)
= Work in tandem with sales team on new design ideas or products or product lines.
2. Analytical and Interpretation Skills
= Develop and maintain daily/weekly/monthly reports on activity and results as required
= Assist in costing and manufacturing specifications to ensure proper pricing and profit margins.
= Have ability to professionally communicate with all levels in the organization for precise explanation and feedback from employees and customers
3. Quality Assurance
= Monitor product quality scores and develop programs to increase
= Coordination with the production teams and monitoring the quality and accuracy of the design and final product.
= Working with pitch crews to coordinate and update design based on field observations.
4. Seasonal Activity
= Travel may be required based on national programs/conventions to allow added ability to talk with the communities and countries with a desire to utilize our products. Travel may also be required to physical locations of installations or design work.
5. And any other tasks as deemed by business needs and management.
Decision Making Authority:
Issues or concerns regarding customer service are to be resolved with guidance of the VP of Sales, Managers, President or CEO. Items related to new product development are to be referred to the CEO.
Working Relationships:
Internal: CEO, Director of Operations, Marketing Manager, Sales Manager Production Management. Also, interactions with Finance, Purchasing, Shipping, and IT as needed.
External: Customer base
Work Schedule: Salary exempt role – no specified work hours. Office hours are typically M-F 8:00 to 5:30 pm
Physical Environment:
= Professional office environment with appropriate "western Colorado area casual/professional” appearance and upbeat attitude. We live and thrive as a Colorado mountain town!
Physical Demands: Must be able to sit for extended periods, lift to 50 lbs. and navigate/use computer system.
Mental and Visual Demands: Flow of work and nature of duties involve normal coordination of mind and eyes much of the time.
Necessary Skills for this Role:
= Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. (QuickBooks a plus)
= Must be proficient in Sketch Up or other auto-cad design
= Need to manage multiple tasks, effectively prioritize and manage time and produce reports when needed.
= Ability to toggle between working independently and supporting the team
= Holistic experience with business and operations functions in support of development team
= Demonstrated leadership abilities in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
= Solid track record of success in building, mentoring and inspiring teams to excel and deliver outstanding results on time, within budget.
= Experience with analyzing, interpreting, summarizing and presenting results in a clear, concise, accurate manner.
= State-of-the-art new product development processes preferred
= Whole platform development including instrumentation, software, consumables, reagents, service, marketing and sales support preferred
= Analytical and interpretation skills and Safety, environment and other regularly requirements
= Process improvement mindset preferred
Educational Background, Experience, and/or additional requirements:
= Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Construction Related trade (i.e. Construction Management, Architectural Construction, Engineering, etc.) Business Administration, Management, or other relevant discipline
= 5+ years of industry experience in general business management, product development and experience with successful commercialization of technologies
= Strong Product Management, Business and Operations background (generally gained through 5+ years of relevant experience)
