Job Description & Requirements

Position:  Director of Programs, Events & Rentals (PER)

Reports To: Manager of Three Belles Outfitters.

Oversees: Event/Tradeshow Staff and Summer Hires (Rentals)

Summary:  This hands-on position is a perfect fit for someone with a passion of being on the water and the ability to plan and coordinate events in the offseason.  You will be responsible for the coordination and management of all on and offsite programs and events, summer rentals, logistical management of trade shows, expos, annual fishing tournament, and brick and mortar sales.  The ideal candidate will have a background in outdoor recreation education within the fishing/camping or outdoor industry.  They will have the ability to not only plan in the offseason but to execute all events and programs within the season.  You will be responsible for maintaining and expanding existing PER activities as well as the freedom to develop new ones.  In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating logistics for all onsite/offsite corporate, private and TBO events, develop, maintain and adhere to budgets for PER events.

Duties:

Rental & Activities

·         Ensure the execution of each PER activity either directly or through the use of hired staff.

·         Oversee seasonal hired staff and fulltime staff in the realm of equipment rentals and seasonal programs.

·         Develop/Execute Kid’s Paddle Club curriculum, and on the water teaching.

·         Create budgets and stick to them.

·         Organize transportation to events as needed.

·         Hire and wrangle keynote speakers or celebrities, hire A/V teams and equipment for inhouse seminars.

·         Help to expand the Three Belles Outfitters brand awareness among current and new clientele.

·         Coordinate and engage local businesses (outdoor and recreational/fitness), outdoor and fishing non-profit organizations, youth/family opportunities, and for their direct participation with events pertaining to the Marina location and sales opportunities at Three Belles Outfitters.

·         Interdepartmental planning for events and merchandising respective venues.

·         Logistical coordinator for all TBO fishing events.

·         Coordinate with Three Belles Outfitters Manager/E-com Department for social media and internet brand awareness and promotional opportunities via radio, television, and said scheduled events.

·         Represent Three Belles Outfitters brand in the local community in Connecticut and greater New England. 

 

Sales & Marketing

·         Seeking out new market opportunities with new demographics (i.e. fitness and women’s markets)

·         Establishing literature and other marketing venue opportunities with local business for using TBO as a venue (i.e. Yoga classes, Sunset Tours)

·         Provide marketing/website advertising to Online Sales Manager for promoting both products and events/store sales.

·         Seeking out off-site venues for product/staffing supply for other businesses’ events (Ex: Water’s Edge in Westbrook/Clinton)

·         Contributing to the display integrity of the storefront for seasonal marketing opportunities.

·         Provide Outfitter Manager with purchasing and inventory needs for merchandising and supply for programs and events.

·         Brick and Mortar Sales-responsible for opening and closing duties in conjunction with and absence of TBO Manager. 

·         Assist in developing in store/online marketing strategies for SUP sales.

 

Requirements

·         Passion for all things paddle sports and the desire to share that experience with others.

·         5-7 year history working and/or outdoor recreation education within the fishing, camping, or outdoor industry including the knowledge and understanding of events coordination, venue logistical management, outdoor instruction and/or educational programs. A combination of both education and hands on experience is preferred.

·         A passion for engaging clients to ensure that they have an extraordinary outdoor experience.

·         History of engaging local businesses in costal New England (preferred) for the purposes of booking external venue events, team-building venues, and recreational family/youth events.

·         History with logistical management of events, trade shows and or conventions including travel-planning, staffing and budgeting.

Skills Needed

·         Communication: Talking to clients, listening to their needs and presenting ideas and solutions to their requirements. The ability to be creative to solve problems.

·         Work with suppliers, contractors, employees, food service staff and many other parties at the same time.

·         Customer service and interpersonal skills are required.

·         Time management and solid scheduling and logistical skills are a must for this position.

·         Calm Under Pressure: Many things can go wrong during an event, and something eventually will. Event coordinators need to remain calm during crisis and the high pressure of an event in progress.

·         Computer Skills: Modern event planners rely on computers to communicate, plan, budget and organize their events.

·         Negotiation Skills: Event coordinators will need negotiation skills to work out prices with clients and contractors.

·         Organization: Many PER activities happen at the same time, organization is imperative to ensure success.

·         Problem-Solving Skills: Inevitably, something will go wrong at an event. Being able to quickly solve the issue is required.

·         Paddleboard/Kayak Instruction Certifications, First Aid, CPR preferred but not required.
