Position Purpose

Directs and manages all aspects of human resources for the Wright & McGill Co. including Laker Fishing Tackle Co. located in Missouri.

 

Attendance & Schedule

Consistent and regular on-site attendance is required.  The person in this position must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.  The schedule is Monday through Thursday, ten-hour days.  Must also be able to work additional hours when needed to interact with other shifts or stay for company functions. 

 

Knowledge Skills and Ability

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Management, Psychology, or another related field. 
  • Must have a PHR, SPHR or other HR certification with a preference given for SPHR certification.
  • Must have eight to ten years’ experience in human resources and have 5 years’ experience at the Human Resource Manager or Director level
  • Must have a broad background in all aspects of Human Resource Management, including employee relations, payroll, insurance administration, 401k plan administration, unemployment, worker’s comp, employment law, organization development, and recruiting/staffing.
  • Must have advanced Excel and Microsoft Word skills.
  • Must have skillful writing and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, and outside vendors and service providers.
  • Strong analytical skills and strong decision-making skills
  • Must have the ability to work with all levels of staff resolving conflict and administering policies fairly and equitably.

Essential Duties

·       Manages a department of four direct reports. Administers, manages, and supervises all HR processes including recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, benefits, total rewards, services, wellness, safety, records, payroll, worker’s compensation, employee relations and all other HR activities, operating in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.

·       Partner with executive leadership in strategic discussions pertaining to human resources and current business applications, opportunities, challenges, issues to find collaborative solutions including gathering and analyzing data as needed.

·       Manage staffing activities including recruitment, testing, interviewing, hiring, orientation, transfer, promotion, layoff, recall, and termination of all levels of employees including those hired through temporary agencies.

·       Manage and engage in the administration of the employee benefits programs including health insurance, 401k plan, and total rewards programs.  Is an active 401k plan committee member and administrator of the 401k plan.

·       Manage and engage in the administration of the Worker’s Compensation plan, which includes review of cases and legal implications with the status of claims. Works with the Safety and Compliance Manager on maintaining the Worker’s Compensation Plan Policy.

·       Manage and supervise the unemployment claims process for Wright & McGill Co. and the Laker facility and represent the Company at unemployment hearings when necessary.

·       Manage, supervise, and conduct employee relations issues investigations through resolution.  Provide counsel to individual employees requesting advice when their situations are relative to Company policies and procedures.

·       Guiding, coaching, and counseling managers and supervisors, review and administer the necessary warnings and disciplinary actions regarding employees in violation of Company policies and operating practices.

·       Coach, counsel and train managers and supervisors in local, state, and federal laws including recent changes to the laws and in day-to-day operations regarding human resources procedures, policies, and guidelines.

·       Partner with the Plant Manager assisting in the recruiting, selection, retention, and development of all employees in Production and other departments in the factory.

·       Responsible for the HR department’s operating procedures, record systems and the preparation of periodic reports and summaries to keep Management apprised of activities.

·       Work collaboratively with the Safety and Compliance Manager to maintain worker’s compensation and OSHA regulations and the company’s safety and rewards programs. 

·       Responsible for the Company’s Affirmative Action Program and for the Company’s efforts to increase the employment of minority and other affected classes.  This involves close liaison with appropriate agencies of these groups, record maintenance of such activities with such groups, liaison activity with Company supervisors and managers in relation to such employment, and follow-up, reporting activities for the Company’s efforts.

·       Through contacts with educational institutions, seminars and professional societies and organizations, keep abreast of new developments in local, state, and federal laws to maintain the company’s ability to comply with all legal statutes, laws, and regulations as they pertain to the human resources body of knowledge.  Maintain on-going business relationship with the Employers Council in Denver, Colorado

·       Manage the cafeteria food services by working with the employee cafeteria vendor and the building maintenance department manager.

·       Manage the building sanitation services utilizing an outside vendor and in collaboration with the building maintenance department manager and the production manager when necessary.

 

Physical Environment & Working Conditions

  • Must have the physical ability to understand and communicate effectively in person and via telephone, email, fax, and written material.
  • Must be able and willing to interact with employees in a factory environment, where there is high speed machinery, chemicals, forklifts, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Must have good visual acuity and be able to sit at a computer for most of scheduled workday.

·       When preparing for Company events and/or functions, may need to lift and move chairs, tables, coolers, boxes of food etc., which could weigh 10 – 40 lbs.

·       Must have good visual acuity to read and input information and data into various computer programs.

·       Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, twist, reach and bend for significant periods of time to file documents into 4-drawer file cabinets and to make numerous trips throughout the building and manufacturing facility each day.

  • Requires some travel.
