Who we are
Project U.S.E. is a private, nonprofit education organization with a focus on developing character, building community, enhancing traditional school curriculum, and connecting with the natural world. Founded in 1970, we work with over 3,000 young people and adults annually from all over New Jersey and the northeast. We provide experiential education programs to public and private schools, state and municipal agencies, community groups and corporations.
The Wildcat Program provides single- and multi-day adventure-based wilderness programs, with an emphasis on character development. Activities include rock climbing, low & high ropes courses, canoeing, backcountry camping, and expedition travel on courses. The Wildcat Mountain Wilderness Center, located in northern New Jersey, is a 50,000 acre wilderness area. Programs take place mostly in New Jersey, but longer trips travel to New England, West Virginia and other locations.
Opportunity
Delivering adventure-based programs to Project U.S.E. clients. As part of the Wildcat Instructor team, you are responsible for:
Leading groups of 10-15 participants (Middle School, High School, College and Adults)
Instructing activities and exercises that emphasize: leadership, teamwork, positive communication, trust, community, environmental education and conflict resolution
Encouraging groups to connect with the natural world
Instructing at Wildcat is never boring- each group brings a different perspective and challenge to the day!
What you’ll do
In your role, you will assist with single and multi-day courses with our groups. Courses may include the following:
Team Building Activities
Trust Exercises
Hiking
Orienteering
Low & High Ropes Course Elements
Rock Climbing
When you’re not on programs you may be: prepping food & gear for other programs, doing logistics work, light trail maintenance around basecamp or researching new program activities or locations.

You are a person who is passionate about education and making a difference in the lives of young people. You are motivated, mature, and possess outstanding judgment and decision-making skills. You believe in our mission and are excited to impact the future generation in a positive way.
Qualifications
• Over 18 years of age
• Passionate about teaching or working with young people
• Ability to pass a background check
• Ability to lift at least 25+ lbs
• Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups
• Clean Driver’s License
Nice to have…
• Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), or Basic First Aid & CPR
• Lifeguard certification
• Experience with Outdoor Activities including: rock-climbing, belaying, canoeing, camping & backpacking

Position is Part-time Seasonal - from February through November 15.
